Welcome to the Teacher Education Program in Adolescent English. We dedicate ourselves to preparing teacher candidates who become highly skilled and effective educators and leading professionals. The Master of Arts in Adolescent English, offered in collaboration with the Department of English, is a master’s degree program that will prepare you to improve student learning in today’s challenging classrooms. Our program is designed to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills they will need to have a positive impact on the learning of their future students. Our program integrates current research findings, and offers exposure to best practices through coursework and field experiences. The program is national recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English.
We are also proud to offer an advanced certificate program in adolescent English that leads to initial certification. This program is designed to meet the needs of teacher candidates who already have a master’s degree in English but who need the appropriate pedagogical preparation to become effective English teachers. The education coursework in the advanced certificate program is identical to the education coursework in the master’s degree program. There are no graduate courses in English in the advanced certificate program.
