A recent doctoral graduate of the University of Wisconsin—Madison, Dr. Dalton joins the Hunter College School of Education as Assistant Professor and the Coordinator of Counseling Field Experiences. Dr. Dalton earned her M.Ed. from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi and her B.A. from Mississippi State University. She has a clinical background in mental health, working primarily with children, adolescents, and families with issues of abuse and neglect. She has served as an agency mental health therapist, a school-based mental health therapist, clinical director, and program director. As a community outreach coordinator with a rural health initiative, she developed a youth peer advisory program in which high school students with interests in pursuing health- related careers received training to serve as peer health advisors in their schools and communities. With a specialization in Rehabilitation Psychology, her teaching and research interests revolve around psychosocial issues related to disability and health issues of persons with disabilities.
Teaching
At Hunter, Dr. Dalton teaches clinical skills courses (such as Counseling Skills, Practicum, and Internship) and courses such as Psychosocial Aspects of Disability and Multicultural Counseling.
Research
Dr. Dalton’s past research has focused upon examining the efficacy of state rehabilitation services for people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Her future research projects focus on the perception of the accessibility of health care services for persons with disabilities, and examining communication and attitudes as barriers to full inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
